Would 14 be a good age to start Shaolin? And about what age would I finsh learning the martial art?

The younger you are, the better. You will never finish 'learning' or 'perfecting' the art, but you can become a master in your twenties if you begin now. A master is one who has enough experience to teach others. Don't get this confused with 'instructor'. An instructor is basically an assistant to a master. Usually a good master has a higher master that he/she returns to a few times a year for an intensive course and an evaluation of his/her progress. If a master's master has no one above him/her, because he/she is the best in that lineage, or (usually because his/her master has passed away) then he/she becomes grandmaster. There can be many grandmasters in any particular martial art, but only one in a particular lineage of practitioners. Go for it, now is the time to begin.

Would 14 be a good age to start Shaolin? And about what age would I finsh learning the martial art?
If you goal is to learn the Shaolin martial arts, you are at a good age to begin your dedication. The Shaolin arts, Northern and Southern, Animal, 5 Ancestors, Louhan and many others.. it would take a lifetime. .. because of how many Shaolin martial arts there are. If you consider Shaolin styles derived from monks who left the monastery, Shorin-ryu etc... there is even more to learn.

I think you could begin to master your first style of Shaolin martial arts after 2 or 3 years if you're really dedicated. Then you'd move onto another. and another... and another.
Reply:any age is a good age to start. The younger the better. How long it takes to finish is dependent on only you. A good shaolin martial arts school is called shaolin-do. It is owned by grandmaster Sin Kwang The.

The school itself is affordable and has a good curriculum. It costs about 100 dollars a month for unlimited access to all weekly shaolin kung fu and tai chi classes (at least12). They teach several different styles of shaolin (since the grandmaster owns it).

They have a website with more information and locations, shaolin-do.com.

If you started in this school now....you'd probably get a black belt in at least four years (if you go enough and make all the belt tests). Finishing the martail art would take much longer and a life time of practice.
Reply:If it is a true art ; as Shaolin obviously is, you could never "finish" but instead you may "quit".
Reply:1) Age 14 is fine for starting a Martial Art.

2) You NEVER EVER "finish" learning. The study of Martial Arts is a journey, not a destination.
Reply:There is no end to learning the arts of shaolin. My grandfather started learning from young and he is still learning and practising. 14 is a good age to learn. Though I started at 7 and I cannot call my self even good in any form that I've learnt when compared to my grandfather and dad...

Train hard till the day u die:)
Reply:12 years old and up are considerably good age to start any martial art. And what age would you finish? It will be a lifetime for it is a way of life. Just like any sport one chooses, they do not stop or finish it but continue to play their sport till their last breath simply because it's their passion.

but with patience, discipline and dedication to practice one can become a master of shaolin after at least 5 years of rigid training.
Reply:14 is a very good age to start. I wish I'd started at a younger age.

Finish? I don't think you actually finish unless you get bored with it or end up unable to train anymore.
