How can I learn to block out physical pain, like Shaolin Monks?

I want to figure it out, so I can learn how to be strong.

How can I learn to block out physical pain, like Shaolin Monks?
They dont. They do conditioning. If you dont want your balls to hurt anymore when you get kicked in the nuts drag weights around tied to your nuts a few times a day like the shaolin monks do. If you dont want your fists to hurt anymore when you punch punch somethin a few hundered times a day.
Reply:GO TO SHAOLIN TEMPLE USA TO LEARN THE REALL CHINESE KUNG FU ! SHAOLIN MONKS LEARN THE CHI KUNG WHEN THEY ARE ONLY 6 YEARS OLD.
Reply:I'd look into self-hypnosis. If you have a talent for it, it could work very well for you. Some people use it during surgery instead of anesthesia.

I can't remember if it's an Idiot's Guide or a Dummies book on hypnosis, but whichever one is by Roberta Temes, that's a good place to start.

Good luck!
Reply:Look at it from a combat point of view.

Blocking out physical pain does not neceassaily make you more effective-otherwise boxers and soldiers would be on xylocaine.

You will still get knocked out without feeling pain, your bones can still be broken, and organs and muscles cramp up from heavy impact.

In other words its better just to do what pro fighters do. Get very fit, very hard bodied, and very focussed.

Adrenalin takes away 95% of pain anyway.

Anything that gets through is a useful warning something is wrong and you better start winning the fight soon.
Reply:pain is telling you that your body is in trouble. I lived in China %26amp; Taiwan for a long time studying Mandarin Chinese and studying Martial arts...A lot of that Monk stuff is fake, they wear a cup when kicked in the joint..Only a rare few can retract their testicles into their abdomen region. Learn martial arts well and you will be able to truly deal better with the pain
Reply:Why would you want to? Pain tells us when there is something wrong. If you feel no pain then how would you know when to get medical attention. I have seen numerous people condition their hands to the point that they can break anything. I have also seen many of these people develop arthritis and other debilitating conditions because of such training. If you want to be a good fighter, work on your techniques. Don't punish yourself. On a side note, If you don't have a proper teacher to teach you this type of conditioning then you will hurt yourself. Possibly permanently.

Good Luck
Reply:There's no such thing as blocking out pain, (unless you somehow have dead pain receptors)

Pick up a few meditation books. Being strong is not avoiding pain, it's overcoming it.

Although this does remind me that when I was like 10 I somehow got into the mindstate that pain was just another feeling, like hot or cold. I could stick my hand on hot summer burned glass, (which my cousins were quickly pulling their hands back off of) I was twisting my own skin out of boredom, and sticking my hands in hot water. (stupid kid I was) However, as hard as I try I cannot get into that mindstate again.

Just remember that you exist in your mind, not your body. Your body is just a vessel.
Reply:Whiskey, lots and lots of whiskey : P Why do you think they created the Drunken fist style? : D
Reply:LOL shoalin Monks cant "block out" physical pain , let me put one in an armbar , and we will see how they can block out their arm being broken. Most of that crap is hollywood stuff man. The only way you can increase your threshold for pain , is by getting in the ring and sparing with heavy hitting apponents , and lift weights as well , strong lean muscle is like armor for the human body.
Reply:What everyone said but pain is good it tells you when your body is in danger.
Reply:Train. Then train some more. When finished with that you MUST train more. It comes down to conditioning which comes from training long and hard.

It is not that they don not feel pain ( they do) it is that they have trained to go beyond it.

Pain is a necessary thing. Your body's way of communicating danger to your mind. It is your early warning system. Some people have a lower threshold than others. Everyone can train to endure some higher level of pain.

It takes the Shaolin Monks years of intense training to perform their feats.
Reply:Do they block it out or are they just not emotionally attached to it.

It hurts so what fighting is supposed to hurt live with it.

It is probably that they accept pain as a likely consequence .To accept and expect something is the 1st step in ignoring it when it happens and continue with the fight.

If you can't accept the possibility of being hurt and dealing with it take up knitting even then you might jab yourself with a needle accidently.

To be hurt and be finished are 2 different things. The only time you wont feel pain is if he knocks you unconcious then you hurt later.

Pain is a spur to redouble your efforts.
