movie fu
jackie chan has stated that he is an actor/stuntman NOT a martial artist, and has never mentioned having training in any art
sensei since when is opera(chinese or otherwise) a martial art, I suppose that makes pavarotti the greatest martial artist of the modern era.
Chinese opera students are trained in stage fighting not fighting, watch a fight from a chinese opera it looks more like a clown act than a fight
Whais/are the type(s) of Kung Fu Jackie Chan does? Wushu, Shaolin etc?
As far as I know he studied Wing Chun Kung Foo. I don't remember watching him do any Wushu or northern Shaolin.
Reply:Jackie Chan don't do Wing Chun. Bruce Lee does Wing Chun. I would guess that Jackie chan does BAK Mie Pai, not Wing Chun.
Reply:Jackie Chan learned in the Chinese Opera. If you read its history you will find that it was made up of high level masters who escaped persecution.
So, Jackie Chan IS a great martial artist. If he says he is not, it is because he did not learn in a school or any particular "school" of martial arts.
He learned many styles.
Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao are also from the same Opera House. They all grew up together.
Reply:Jackie Chan does Wushu which is not a martial art. It was created by the communist government as a form of martial ballet when they outlawed Chinese martial arts.
Reply:hapkido, tae kwondo, judo, shaolin and wing chun kung fu
Reply:Jackie Chan IS a good martial artist. He started young in an opera school and studied many Northern style traditional martial arts (not Wushe, or contemporary martial arts). Northern style Chinese martial arts are the basic for the Chinese opera actors and all students like Sammo Hung, Yuen Baio trained 8-9 hours a day to have good foundation. Therefor Jackie has a very good martial arts fountain.
Jacky later on also studied other Southern style martial arts like Bak Mei (White eyebrow), Wing Chun, and etc. People can see his true kung fu performance in his older movies in the late 70's and early 80's. He is good at many style and a GREAT martial artist.
