Who would win, a Samurai or a Shaolin monk?

In a fight to the death, their choice of their own traditional weapons and armor, shields, etc. No horses or bows allowed.





And none of those cop-out "it depends on the individual" answers!

Who would win, a Samurai or a Shaolin monk?
This is an interesting question. A monk with a spear will own a samurai with a sword. Conversely, a samurai with a spear would probably own a monk with a sword. It depends what weapons you're talking about. I'd restrict them both to swords since both monks and samurai specialize in that to some degree.





Now since monks are trained with shorter swords they're at a disadvantage already. The samurai loses little dexterity comparitively if they're using a katana so, I'd go with the samurai.





Open-handed fight, would be a tough call. Aikido is extremely fast and efficient but, so are most Shaolin styles. I'd call it a draw.





Ultimately, they shouldn't fight though.

Shaolin monks are not warriors, they are religious first and fighters last. Shaolin monks operated in desolate regions and needed to defend themselves and sacred relics from bandits and other thieves. They were not combat soldiers.





And Samurai were combat soldiers and not religious priests.





Chinese Shaolin emphasized 'defense' and Japanese Samurai emphasized 'attack'.
Reply:i think the shaolin monk will win, if they r being threatened to fight. i doubt the samurai will win, for they r not trained that much like the shaolin monks to be fast. anyways, if you see some real life actions, a shaolin monk's stomach on top of a spear would not be killed.... look at this video:

Reply:i would say its shaolin monk b/c they use weapons too and samurai uses weapon but then theyre not flexible and doesnt really have good reflexes just like noremal soldier
