What does the diet of a shaolin monk consist of?

Shaolin is Buddhist, not Taoist. Monk food is traditionally vegetarian and, often times, vegan. Like in all Buddhist temples, Shaolin monks are to take refuge in the three Jewels; the Buddha (the potential for their own perfection), the Dharma (teaching), and the Sangha (their community). Part of the Dharma is to cultivate compassion, which eating meat is contrary to. Some monks, however, will eat meat when it is offered to them when they are begging.

What does the diet of a shaolin monk consist of?
Porbably apples.

Well, just saying that that's probably one of them.
Reply:rice is probably in there...but unless you're asian i wouldnt try eating alot of rice....not trying to be a bigot here or anything either

its just that Asians have been using rice for generations and therefore are genetically better able to handle the excess of carbs that they're getting and put it to good use as energy for their bodies......which is pretty much the simplest way i can put it

as opposed to other cultures that are relatively new to the whole carb loading thing
Reply:iam a shaolin practioner so iknow..........they are vegetarians, they eat lots of steamed vegetables and ramen,fruits,............and drinking is only water and tea.

In an interveiw with a shaolin monk ...the shaolin monk said that if he atesomething out of an americans diet (such as pepporoni pizza) his body would reject it and he would feel bad.
Reply:They are vegetarians and follow what is known as a 'macrobiotic diet'.
Reply:Shaolin Nuns
Reply:I have ordered this meal many times at a local Chinese restaurant.

Monks Food........Steamed vegetables %26amp; rice.
Reply:Most shaolin monks are attempting to gain immortality through the Tao, which is basically the perfection of ones self over any given life time.

In order to gain immortality, one must be a strict vegetarian and not consume the flesh of any living creature.
