The Wudang Temple is of the Taoist faith. Taoists priests always wear their hair long whether they practice martial arts or not.

The Shaolin Buddhist monks and the Wudang Taoists priests fought each other constantly over 500 years each with their own style of Kung Fu.
Reply:because they are really hare krishnas in disguise.
Reply:So that in battle you cant grab their hair.
Reply:Mostly to symbolize their break from the outside world. They are after all Buddhist monks and are expected to live a life of hardship and humility to cleanse themselves of vanity and pride, as well as attachments to material things and to strive to achieve enlightenment. Another reason would be to prevent lice infestation.
