Why do the old shaolin monks have such long eyebrows?

They didn't. They were normal people. The movie industry created an archetype character that included long facial hair that was symbolic of age and wisdom...the longer you are here the more skilled and wiser you are. This was copied by many other film makers and now you see it everywhere and it is a very recognizable character.

Why do the old shaolin monks have such long eyebrows?
so they can trip people up if they are too tired too fight
Reply:this is a tradition
Reply:because they do not have them cut otherwise you would not have a question.
Reply:Dramatic emphasis..

I think you watched a few to many kung fu films.

Shaolin monk basically shave their entire bodys ritually on a daily basis.
Reply:They are not eyebrows. They are highly trained killer caterpillars known for their stealth and cunning
Reply:they dont have any beauty salons in that party of the world
Reply:That is a part of movies. I know Shaolin monks actually shave their heads ritualistically and regularly, they might even shave their eyebrows, because I've seen this done before too.
Reply:Where did you see them having long eyebrows? Is it in the movies? If you really wnat to know you can watch Henan TV channels, Shaolin temple is there.
Reply:I'm not any kind of monk but I have hair growing out of ever fold on my head and less on my head so guess it must be an age thing (?)

Stereotypes think they are funny
Reply:All the better to whup yo @ss with my dear. They also plait them and put beads in when they're in a funkey mood.
Reply:it is very cold where they train ,high up in the mountains and it helps keep them warm.
Reply:Mikenanda is right.

Has anyone in the forum seen or know someone who has seen anyone with eyebrows that long?

How often does anyone here have to trim their eyebrows before they reach their cheeks?

Come on people, think logically.
Reply:So they stand a chance against Chuck Norri's beard.
Reply:So they can use their Chi and the crumbs of bread they have hidden there to defend themself

Seriusly but, Pie Mei is originaly from the Movie "executioners of shaolin", great movie by the way, and shows a glimps of Bruce Lee's philosophy on martial arts, anyway, Pie Mei isnt really a shaolin monk, he is just some other monk/kung fu guy and all the shaolin monks in the movie are regular bold monks looking, check the movie out if you have the chance
Reply:Because they practise BUSH-IDO.
Reply:Age my friend. Irs unlucky to cut them. Its an insult for someone to shave their eyebrows.
Reply:Because they are old... My uncle is in his seventies, has never trained in MA and his eyebrows are huge. Being a monk has nothing to do with the size of your eyebrows.
Reply:Because they look better than the bushes that elderly white men grow form their ears and noses
