shaolin monks are buddihst monks. if i had a chance to study with them i would. they live a very austere simple life. they rise early study/work/pray very hard and exist on a very simple diet. they have none of the material things we hold so dearly to, they are seperated from thier families at 3 years old and sent to live in the temples. i was lucky enough to see the tibetan monks that provided the music for seven years in tibet. it's truly awe inspiring how completely they dedicate their lives to their beliefs.
Reply:Is a shaolin monk like a chimpanzee?
Reply:I think that it would be an amazing thing to be taught martial arts by a shaolin monk as their style of fighting seems to be a lot more effective than many of the other types. My husband did kung fu for a number of years and could still defend himself if he had to. He did another form for a few months but the people running it found him frustrating as kung fu moves in close to the opponent where the other style you were expected to stay apart from them. My husband would constantly move in and have the opponent on the ground before they knew what was happening. He lost interest quickly so stopped going. Unfortunately the kung fu school closed down so he couldnt keep it up.
Reply:They are Buddhist monks who live %26amp; train in a monastery named Shaolin temple.

Only one group of these monks are trained in the art of Shaolin martial arts %26amp; they train daily.

In order to raise funds for the monastery, the current abbot (chief monk) accepts foreign martial arts students (you don't have to be a monk).

Yes, I would love to go there %26amp; learn their martail arts %26amp; probably some of their meditation even though I'm not a Buddhist. : )
Reply:Yes I would like to go to Tibet and stay with the monks learning their way of life.
