Shaolin monks?

Has anybody seen these guys in action? The deadliest fighters on the plannet no doubht about that.I watched an old documentary called jet li's shaolin kung fu narrated by jet li.I was totaly amazed at what these monks can do.This one monk was uppercutting bricks like they were slices of bread.Another monk who was in his 80's could do a handstand against the wall with 1 finger.I couldnt beleive what i was seeing half the time.

Shaolin monks?
i have seen them in action,i live in beijing and twice a day 365 days of the year they give a performance, always packed and awesome.one man attaches a rope to his testicles and lifts a huge stone off the floor.members of the audience go and try to pick it up but you can clearly see how heavy it is.the monks train up in the mountains and take students in from age 4 up.often, the poorer parents abandon their kid at the monestry and the monks take them in and train them.the training is harsh and starts at 5am,and ends at 8pm,and thats every day of the year.anyone who thinks these guys are not for real is living in cuckoo land.the bare hand stuff is awesome but the weapons display just makes your jaw drop.

Tell me what you think of their Demo team, pretty good? The guy does some great Drunken style. But I admit in the cage against the likes of some , well... he's in trouble... unless there is weapons. But ya gotta admit, it is Cool... MMA has an edge in a fair fist fight. Simply due to it is the mixing of styles and the development of close quarter combat weaponless - with some limits agreed. But all the limits applied can easily be used by the fighters., like eye clawing gouging, groin shots, etc.So I still go with MMA as the leader in hand to hand skills.
Reply:People that say MMA guys would beat the hell out of the monks in a fight have some points. But here's what i think. First of all, Shaolin isn't what it used to be. Monks in the prime of the Shaolin temple where probably the most proficient fighters that have been around. They didn't fight in an octagon where certain strikes where banned; they fought against opponents who were determined to kill them. Monks today do not face the same challenges. But the monks of the past were the original ultimate fighters. They lived and died by their training. And their training would make mma training look like childsplay. Sure they didn't pump iron, but they had grueling training regimens that not only forged their bodies but minds as well. These guys were hard. and to put it into perspective further, most martial arts in the world, even those practiced by mma fighters, have some root in Shaolin. The shaolin put these arts to the test, and the only reason these arts are around today is because there was really something to them. Its why they where the best in the world. The world may never again be able to allow the right conditions to cultivate such great great martial artists and the mental/spiritual strength they attained through meeting the conditions that were before them.
Reply:yea shaolin monks were pretty much supermen. but as u can see it takes a WHOLE LOT of years to get to where they are. were talkin lifetime training. however i think mas oyama is more impressive. the guys hands were made of steel. his strength was just unreal (he wrestled bulls to the ground and then chopped their horn off). oyama, kimura, and bruce lee were pretty hard workers and if lee didnt die like that...who knows where he could be
Reply:there is no evidence of any fighting EVER occuring at any shaolin temple, no evidence of shaolin supermonks or whatever, and considering how ineffective the systems ascribed to them(though without any evidence) are I highly doubt they ever existed. as a matter of fact every art in china which has claimed a lineage from the shaolin temple has been proven to be either completely fraudulent or "sifu X said so but he's dead now, and I don't have any other proof" and in most of those cases it turned out 'sifu X' never existed in the first place, no birth records, death records, burial place, etc. In america the few time the claims have been checked they turned out exactly the same.

the modern shaolin temple was set up by the chinese government to promote tourism and generate income, it was built in the 20th century, and its monks are no more inheiritors of a lost fighting art or heritage than is my dog. As for the 'historical' shoalin temple there is as much evidence for that as there is for camelot, actually evidence points to the legend of the shaolin temple being created by the chinese government as a way of creating their own camelot to create a sense of national pride when pride was very low during the worst years of socialist rule.

I am fully aware that most of you will be very upset with this, that it will be a big blow to your little fantasy world, tough, I live in reality you should join me, its really not all that boring here. but of course you don't want to hear that and will ignore me, and will blast me with rants and thumbs down and cite wiki articles(which all semi intelligent people know is a terrible source of information and should never be trusted) 'proving' me wrong. oh well continue your delusions, you all obviously know better than the historians
Reply:Anyone who goes on about the Shaolin not being the kind of fighter they used to be is missing the point.

If you knew the history of the Shaolin Monasteries you`d know why they created their fighting styles and why their style is the way it is now.

The most amazing thing about the Shaolin is this - they take anyone at any age ,you just need to show commitment to their way of life.
Reply:They don't seem to be doing any fighting. Especially when they could be making alot of money. It's not like they're not greedy! Derren Brown could probably dupilicate there stunts but you don't see them in UFC either!
Reply:dude i wish shaolin monks where as bad *** as u say , because that would be cool , and it would go buy all the movies and stories we see in hollywood , but the truth is rampage jackson and fedor can go over there and make little girls out of all of them.. there is no chi , being one with nature and all that about fighting in real life , and the nicer more mature person dosent always win. the real deadliest fighters on earth are the ones that train at a mma gym , take protien shakes , xyience , and know submissions , and street fight for a living.
